How to Apply Kryolan Collodion

Create Realistic, Sunken Scars & Special FX!

Kryolan Collodion creates realistic, indented scars by tightening and pulling the skin as it dries. Perfect for Halloween, theatrical makeup, and character transformations!

What You'll Need

  • Kryolan Collodion
  • Fine makeup brush
  • Cream makeup (Kryolan Supracolor)
  • Translucent setting powder
  • Kryolan Collodion Remover
  • Cotton pads or swabs

Step 1: Prep & Color

Start with clean, dry, oil-free skin. Using cream makeup, draw your scar in shades of pink, red, or muted purple. Lightly set with translucent powder.

Step 2: Apply Collodion

Brush a thin layer directly over your scar design. Allow it to dry completely. You'll notice the skin tightening and sinking inward.

Step 3: Build Your Scar

Apply additional thin layers, allowing each to dry before adding another. Each layer creates a deeper indentation. Stop if the skin becomes uncomfortable.

Step 4: Perfect Your Look

Once dry, add subtle cream color around the scar if needed for a more realistic finish.

MAKEUP ARTIST TIP: Collodion is best for sunken, healed scars. For raised wounds or scars, use scar wax instead!

How to Remove

Never peel or pull Collodion off your skin!

  • Saturate a cotton pad with Kryolan Collodion Remover.
  • Gently dab the scar, allowing the remover to dissolve the product.
  • Carefully wipe away without scrubbing or pulling.
  • Repeat as needed, then cleanse and moisturize.

Important Safety Tips

  • Use only on healthy, intact skin. Avoid eyes, lips, nostrils, irritated skin, and sensitive areas.
  • Never apply over actual wounds.
  • Avoid excessive layering or large areas.
  • Use in a well-ventilated area, away from flames and heat. Product and remover are flammable.
  • Always use the appropriate Collodion Remover, not ordinary makeup remover.
